Installation of Modified Bitumen Roofing

Asphalt-based for durability & weather resistance

Modified Bitumen Roofing

Little Guy Roofing offers the modern solution of modified bitumen (mod bit) roofing, an evolution of the classic tar-and-gravel systems from the 1960s and 70s. This asphalt-based, single-ply roofing system is celebrated for its exceptional durability, weather resistance, and low maintenance requirements. Little Guy Roofing provides two primary methods for installing modified bitumen roofing: the hot (torch-down) method or the cold (adhesive backing) approach, with the choice of method depending on the type of bitumen used. All our modified bitumen materials are manufactured in sheet form, ensuring ease of transport and installation, making Little Guy Roofing a reliable choice for your roofing needs.

The two most common types of mod bit roofing are:
APP (Atactic Polypropylene)

Little Guy Roofing utilizes Atactic Polypropylene, commonly referred to as APP, a synthetic polymer that enhances bitumen with extra waterproofing capabilities. As an engineered thermoplastic, APP forms a robust bond with the asphalt and base support layer, resulting in a highly resilient material. The application of APP at Little Guy Roofing involves a torch-down method, employing heat that further reinforces waterproofing as the molten APP sheets cool and adhere to the roofing surface or base layer. This process gives rise to a tougher, more plastic-like membrane, ensuring superior durability and protection for your roofing needs with Little Guy Roofing.

SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene)

Little Guy Roofing offers an innovative roofing solution with the addition of SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) to bitumen, forming a single-ply system. SBS, a synthetic rubber, when combined with bitumen, results in a material that is more flexible and rubbery. At Little Guy Roofing, we typically apply SBS and bitumen to fabric or fiberglass sheets, enhancing the backing support.

Our application of SBS involves cold, adhesive-backed sheets, making the installation process efficient and clean. The rubber-like nature of SBS contributes to the final product’s puncture resistance, increased flexibility, and even self-healing properties, making it a durable and reliable choice for your roofing needs with Little Guy Roofing.
